For more than 30 years, Mariner Mountain City Park in Silver Bay has sat largely unused—an overlooked green space with untapped potential. At the same time, dog owners in our community must travel nearly an hour to find a safe off-leash area. With so many families in Silver Bay sharing their lives with dogs, the absence of a nearby, dedicated space is felt every day.

But we have an opportunity to change that.

Transforming Mariner Mountain City Park into Silver Bay’s first off-leash dog park would revive a neglected public space and create a vibrant, welcoming hub for all residents. A dog park isn’t just for dogs—it’s for people. It brings neighbors together, encourages outdoor activity, strengthens community bonds, and helps support responsible pet ownership. And because the park already has existing infrastructure, the transformation can be done affordably and efficiently.

Even better, the Silver Bay Concerned Citizens group has committed to securing private grants, gathering donations, and organizing volunteer labor to fund and manage the dog park—reducing the cost to the city to zero.
